Virtual PC 2007 - connect from client to host

  • All,

I'm new to Virtual PC 2007 - I had been using VMWARE until recently. I've got a VM set up and running well, it is able to connect to the Internet without a problem. However, I am unable to see or even ping (by hostname or IP) the host PC from the VM or vice versa. The VM is getting a DHCP address in the same subnet as my host PC. The host is running Vista 64 Home Premium, and the VM is XP x86 SP2.

Is this expected behavior, or have I misconfigured something? I had really hoped to be able to connect from host to VM and back.

    Thx,

    Tim

  • Works fine for me. Perhaps a firewall thing?

  • That's where I was leaning, but the odd thing is that I can connect to my other PC from to and from the laptop host as well as to/from the VM. I'll keep hammering on it, it's probably just user error.

  • Problem resolved - It was the firewall (Symantec Internet Security) after all. It actually kept the host machine from connecting with the VM and vice versa since I'm using the IP address to connect.

  • Thanks for the update. Was sure it was networking somewhere.
