I have a x64 Windows 2003 Server running SQL Enterprise (64). I am doing some research on the proper Virtual Memory size for the paging file. General rule of thumb I have always done 1.5 times physical ram. Does that hold true when you have a system that is x64 and have larger ram amounts (we have 32 right now)? The page file as far as I can tell is not used during normal business hours, but should I still allocate that much space?
Any insight on to how people have set this up would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

The 1.5 times the phyiscal memory size is based on whether you want the server to be able to do kernel mode or full memory dumps. This is usually recommended for business critical servers. There is a Microsoft KB for how to size your page file for 64 bit servers that you can read more on how to size it if you don't want it to be 1.5 times the size of the physical memory.
