virtual log file size

  • I have a database that had over 40,000 VLFs. Following advice from here I was able to shrink the file to where it "should" be. The log shrunk to 256MB with 8 VLFs of roughly 32MBs each which is probably how it was created. I expanded the log to 2GB (I measured "normal" usage to be about 1.6GB) and now have 24 VLFs (8 at 32MBs and 16 at 112MBs), which all makes sense.

My question: is it problematic to have the VLFs at differing sizes?
