I am trying to set up a DNS alias for a SQL Server named instance.
Is it possible to create a virtual IP for a named instance?
The instance is not clustered.
Thank you

Don't quite understand why you need a virtual ip for setting up a DSN?
You can create server alias using client network utility to your named instance and create DSN to connect the alias.

Not DSN (ODBC connectivity), but DNS alias that can be assigned to a host name or IP address.
Can I get some more information about client network utility? Maybe this will help..
Thanks
