VIA Protocol Issue

  • Some Idiot enabled the VIA protocol on my servers and I can not disable them.

VIA Protocol continually stays enabled once I disable even after reboot. Im running SQL2005 SP3 (Clustered) on Windows Server 2008 (Clustered)

Does any one have any suggestions?

    I have disabled in,

    SQL Native Client configuration

    and

    SQL Server 2005 Network configuration

It is in the Network configuration I have noticed that it is always staying enabled.

I have even gone as far as editing the Registry entry for this.

I have read around and everyone seems to have no issues disabeling it.

  • An Update on this issue,

I have gone as far as denying the access to the registry entry for VIA control for the SQL services username.

And somehow, by abilities of buttered banana's with cream. the registry entry actually gets reset to full access to the account for the service. and it manages to reset it back, again, to Enabled.

Im Really at a loss here.

For those that do not know Regestry entry is found at:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\Via

MSSQL.1 would be the number of the instance you are running.
