I am wondering how I can get to version 8.00.780? I am on SP 3a and wondering what I need to install to get to the next version. Is it the MS - 031 patch?
I am also wondering I can check if I am running the 32 or 64 bit version of SQL Server 2000
Thanks 🙂

It is the hot fix that resloves SQL Server performance counters missing from performance monitor. MS03-031 build number is 8.00.818.
I have no chance to use 64 bits SQL Server but guess select @@version may give you the information.

Because SQL Server service packs are cumulative, you do not need to install previous service packs. Each service pack includes all fixes from previously released service packs, and can be applied to an original installation or to one where previous service packs have been applied.
Currently the latest service pack for Microsoft SQL Server is:
SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 with latest hot fixes (version 8.00.818)
SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 4 with latest hot fixes (version 7.00.1094)
SQL Server 6.5 Service Pack 5a (version 6.50.416)
SQL Server 6.0 Service Pack 3 (version 6.00.151)

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing to further ensure product quality. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next SQL Server 2000 service pack that contains this fix.

This is a good site for version numbers; it doesn't list 8.00.780 but that's not to say it doesn't exist:
