Hi everyone,
Though I'm a seasoned DBA my experience has been mainly with DTS when doing scripting in SQL Server, but given we've moved to mainly SQL Server 2005 and soon 2008 I'm jumping into SSIS to learn how it ticks.
So with my first SSIS script I'm trying to set the Package variables, but the Variables window won't come up. Here's the version of SSIS Designer I'm running:
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 9.00.3042.00
What I do is open SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio and create a new SSIS Project. When I right-click in the Control Flow tab and click Variables, nothing happens. If I right click again the Variables option is gone. So then I go to View > Other Windows and Variables isn't listed there either. If I close and reopen the package then View > Other Windows, Variables is now listed, but clicking it does nothing and now it's gone from that menu. Right clicking in Control Flow does show Variables but same thing as before.. if I click it nothing happens then it's gone from that menu as well.
Is this a bug in the SSIS designer? With this being my first venture into SSIS this isn't very encouraging. If I open an SSIS package created by another developer the Variables window seems to open fine, but if there's no way to open it from a new package that's rather useless for me.
Has anyone else encountered this? There are no errors in the Event Log, I'm local admin, and I have SQL Server SP1 installed. I'm downloading Service Pack 2 now, but I want to be sure I'm not doing something wrong.

I found a solution that works, but instead of deleting my original post I wanted to do a reply with the solution just incase someone else ran into this. Here's what I did:
Window > Reset Window Layout
Tools > Import and Export Settings Wizard > Rest All Settings > Yes > Business Intelligence Settings > Finish
This seemed to do the trick. I'm not sure what got out of kilter because this is a clean install of SQL Server 2005, but the variables window is loading fine now.
Thanks,
Sam Alex
