Origins for today’s wedding traditions are very interesting. For instance, one belief is that the origin of the wedding ring was from an African custom wherein grass was used to tie the couple’s wrists together during the ceremony. This is probably where the expression the tie that binds originated.

GRASS?!?! How strong is that ?! No wonder people are able to break the tie and separate on whim!
Now if they were handcuffed together (& the key was thrown away) then it might give these unions a chance and there would be less divorces and more of "until death do us part"...

Neither grass nor steel will bind til death do us part.. But the blending of two minds can create a tie that neither binds nor breaks

In Spanish, you would say 'borracha(o)'.
Ah yes, I myself have proffered many sacrifices to the gods of porcelain over the years.
One of my favorite quotes is from Benjamin Franklin who said:
"Beer is living proof that God loves us, and wants us to be happy"

That must be the same God who said "nothing succeeds like excess..."

Yelena Varshal: depending on which week your comming to montreal, you could check out http://www.admission.com for concerts. Look at the Bell center (home of the montreal's canadien), there is sometimes a good rock show there. I know System of a down is at the Bell center on august 28....
Hope this could help.

Steve,
I hope you are having / had a good vacation. I live in Richmond, VA and I was wondering how far you had to travel to get to VA Beach. In other words, from where do you hail, captain? (Just curious.)
