I was looking in one of my books, i thought it was better to install SQL Server 2000 on XP Professional, but when i checked i saw nothing distinguishing the two.
These links also seem not to make any distinction. So maybe there is no difference.
I installed XP Pro on my computer but my sister has Home, so that is why i was checking to be sure.

SQL Server will run on both fine but if you're like me and do development work at home you will find that reporting services needs XP pro so if you use the home edition you wouldn't be able to use it. There's a couple of things like this which make using the home edition a pain.
Going forward I think the developers edition of 2005 will only run on XP pro but I can't say I am 100% sure.
