Using WMI to Monitor SQL Server

  • Hi folks,

I've inherited a Nagios setup that uses WMI to monitor several aspects of SQL Server. This has already been setup across a half dozen servers or so. On a couple servers, for all WMI checks, I get

Unknown - No data received from WMI:

I've never worked with WMI before. I've tried to find a good concise article or forum thread or something that can get me going with using WMI to monitor specific aspects of SQL Server.

Can anyone point me to a good article(s) that describes how to setup WMI with SQL server, start to finish?

The WMI counters are being accessed across the network via NRPE and VBS code. I know this is a vague post, but any help at all is hugely appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • This might be a good resource. There is a lot that can be done with wmi.
