Nice question. But I hope I never need the answer.
Despite that hope I was horrified to see that 2 or the first 4 answers were wrong - anyone with responsability for databases should know the answer (and hope they never need it).
Interesting that "admin:" (as in the explanation) is what BOL says it is, while the answer offered is "ADMIN:" - I guess SSMS is case insensitive for this so it doesn't matter, but...

I had the right answer, but was doubting, since the question specifically mentioned SSMS 2016.x.
As far as I know this is already possible since SSMS 2008 (R2).

Good question because I learned something new. I just hope I remember it when we get to use SQL 2016, which will probably be around 2020 or so. 😉

You shouldn't be viewing this question that way.
SSMS 2016 (which is v16.x) is decoupled from SQL Server. You can download and use SSMS 2016 without being on SQL Server 2016. It's free and on it's own, monthly release cycle.

Touche. I do know they're separate products. I tend to stick with SSMS that's the most recent version of SQL Server I have installed. Maybe it's time I examine that decision.

Isn't DAC connection on previous versions only available via sqlcmd rather than SSMS?

I also had to consult BoL - I am a dev, not an admin. Thanks, Steve!

Easy one, thanks.
Need an answer? No, you need a question
