I was told Microsoft recommends against this but I didn't find any info to support that.
Connecting to SSIS 2005 does not work from SSMS 2008 but other than that I've had no issues.
Any thoughts. Are there any risks. I've been using SSMS 2008 for a couple months and have no issues connecting to the 2005 servers.

Works fine. No intellisense (if you're still using the build in garbage), other than that, no issues that I've had.

Just to suppor what Gail said, I used SSMS for 2008 R2 to manage all my SQL Servers including SQL 2005 instances.
