Using Dual Monitors vs Single Large Monitor

  • What is your preference dual monitors, a single large monitor using snap or neither? I currently use two 24 inch monitors which I absolutely love. It makes working on Reports extremely efficient.

I will be creating a new setup soon so wondering if I should try something new or stick with what works.

  • I like two monitors (extended desktop). I use the right monitor for running SSMS and the left monitor is where I pull up my scripts in notepad, etc, watch my emails, pull up documents.

  • Favourites are 21-24-21 and 24-24, basically monitor count > 1 will do though.

  • Yeah, I'm thinking of staying with the multiples over one large one. I started thinking about it because I will be making a new setup and one of the IT Techs was talking this morning about using a 42" with snap and it got me thinking.

  • Put me in the camp of preferring multiple monitors as well. I don't know if I'd like all the vertical space created by a 42" monster. It might be great for gaming, but I don't think I'd like it for work.

  • I admit I have never worked on one large monitor but can't see living without at least 2 24"+

  • An advantage I can think of to using two (or more) individual monitors over one large one is, if you maximize a window in a dual monitor setup, it stays on the monitor it was on, allowing you to easily maximize another window on the 2nd monitor.

With one big monitor, maximize a window and it covers everything...

Sure there are ways to work around that, but I think it's easier to just maximize...

    BTW, 2x24" at work, and a 24" (1920x1200) and a 21" (1600x1200) at home

  • I saw mounts on Newegg for triple monitor setup. As interesting as that sounds I think I am in concurrence with everyone about the duals. I know I could never go back to a single 15" screen.

A member of our tech team has the triple setup, he says he is testing it. Hope we get it. 🙂

  • I prefer multiple monitors but where I am now I'm stuck hot-desking with a 15" laptop screen. :crying:

    I never thought I'd say this, but I miss cubes. I haven't had a cube since 2011.

I use a single large monitor at home + an app called SplitView. Handles both concerns (i.e. I can maximize to the whole screen if desired or use either of two halves as maximize options as well).

    Well worth the 30$.

  • Any solutions on using a Laptop with a dual setup? I cant use a docking station. I would like to use two 24" monitors and keep the laptop lid closed. Would prefer they be fed off HDMI. Looked at HDMI splitters but couldn't find one that supported "Extended Mode".

    Have. You tried Matrix Dualhead2Go?

  • Nice that's exactly what I was looking for:-D

Now to find two quality monitors that wont break the bank. I have been looking at trying to get something with a thin bezel to make it look more seamless. Trying to find <200 bucks range.

Currently using Dell E2213h at work.

  • At the moment I've got dual 21, but wanting triple. Normally I got at least 3 rdp sessions to servers.
