Using command prompt to stop SQL Server Service

  • My SQL Server 2000 Admin MCP training book covers a section on MS SQL Service Manager and how to stop, start, pause the service, and advises the following :

"It is strongly suggested that you not use the Control Panel's Services utility or the net stop command to stop the server service. Using either of these may increase recovery time the next time the server is started."

Can someone please explain to me why using control panel or command prompt can increase recovery?

  • No aware of that but definately don't use to stop/start clustered virtual SQL Server.
