Using Activity Monitor to monitor 2000 servers

    Hi, I'm trying to monitor SQL2000 servers thru 2005.  All seems to be ok apart from I get errors when using 'Activity Monitor' to monitor 2000 servers.  Monitoring 2005 servers is fine, but for 2000 servers I get :-

    'Unable to launch activity monitor - you may not have sufficient permissions' and 'invalid object name sysdatabases'  I'm using a Sysadmin account to connect but it wont work on the 20 or so servers I've tried so far.

    can it be something to do with schema(2005) and dbo rights in 2000?

    It works for me. I am connecting is as my Windows login that is a Windows administrator on SQL Server 2000 server.

    Thanks for your response guys.  I dont think its anything I need to change on the 2005 side as they are 2000 servers I'm managing so I'm guessing schemas shouldn't come in to it.

    I'm also using windows authentication and am both a Windows and SQL admin on all the servers I'm trying this with ?!?!

    Getting a liitle closer I think and have ruled out security.  If I log on to another PC with SQL2005 installed I can use activity monitor and see SQL2000 servers no problem.  I can log in on this PC with a number accounts and use activity monitor.  Additionally I can use any other account on my PC and use it.  Its only when I use my account on my PC that I have a problem. 

    I do still have SQL2000 installed on it, which the other one doesn't.  But as I've said I've used it ok with another account on my PC and it works fine?!?!

    Well I've found the answer to my own probelm from the MS Support Centre site.  Apparently this is a bug and the only way to get round it is to make the default database of the account you use to log on with 'master'..which isn't really the best one to have but at least it works.

    I still can't work out though why I didn't have any problems using it with my account on another PC??!

    But its all good now!
