Username and password issue

  • Hi, I've set up SQL Server 2014 and it was running under the account suggested by default during setup, i.e. NT Service/MSSQLServer. I later chose under SQL Server 2014 Configuration Manager to use a local account (trying to get something to work in Visual Studio) and after that when I went back to change to the initial account it was set up under it's not listed and I do not have a password. How can I resolve this please?

    Thanks

  • When looking for these 'special' accounts - you have to specify the local system and search for 'nt service\mssql'. Once you do that they will show up and you can then select the right one.

  • Thanks but I'm still none the wiser. What do I select from here under SQL Server Configuration Manager?

There's no way to select the special accounts you mention. There's NETWORK and NETWORK SERVICE but I'm sure it was something like NT SYSTEM/MSSqlServer.

  • It didn't matter what account I used in order to connect to SQL Server from Visual Studio. I've used an account to log in now and it was SQL Server Browser service I needed to start so I could connect.
