Hi
I have several databses that we have been forced to move to a new server, due to a serious hardware crash on the existing one. We managed to save all databases by copying them from one server to another. But this was done by console, not by detach. Since we can not access the server by other means of disk mapping.
When I try to attach them on the new server, I get an erropr tha says that the physical nam g:\mssql\db.mdf may be incorrect. And indeed it is, that is the physical address on the damaged server. Am I correct when I guess that since we did not use detach it remembers where it was last stored?
How do I get around this?
Best regards
DJ

Dan,
Have you also got the master database too ? If so all you need to do is ensure that your SQL Server installation and directory structure is the same as your old machine and copy the files including the master to the equivalent locations on the new machine
