I am getting this error from a full backup:
BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'F:\SQLDUMPS\Customers\Customers_db_200211200740.BAK'. Operating system error 33(error not found).
The drive is compressed.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
I need to fix this urgently as we have not successfully backed up for 3 days!!

I am not sure but error 33 might mean that the file is in use. Can it be that some program is trying to backup the .bak file to tape at the same time?
If not, check on the user who is doing the backup. The account that starts SQLServer (for backup by hand) or that starts the SQLServer Agent (for a job) has permission to write to that directory.

Check the NT Event Viewer logs and SQL Server logs. There is usually a bit more detail in EV logs when backup issues occur.
