I can not connect to Server via Enetrprise Manager. It says: Time out expired. Make sure SQL Server is running and check your registration properties and try again.
When I tried connecting using Query Analyzer in windows mode, it gave the error 'Check with network administrator'. However, I then trie connecting using sa account and it connected. I can see all dbs.
Problem is how do I connect to server using Enterprise manager and if I am able to connect via sa account in Query Analyser why doesn't the application connect to server.
Lastly, I can not see SQLServerAgent in taskbar and whenever I open it manually, it is running. How can I have it below in task bar and does this have anything to do with. Also, how can I check the authentication mode? Maybe thats causing problems.
I am new in this role and need your assistance.
Thanks,
Madiha.

What SQL release are you talking about? SQL 2000 or 2005?

I am using SQL Server 2000. I would like to add here that I restarted the machine and it worked!!
I checked the protocols etc. and the only different thing that seemed was Service Manager not appearing in task bar below though when I opened it manually it showed it was running with a visible green arrow. Taking tha fact that it restarts when OS starts, I restarted the machine.
My question is why was I able to connect with Query Analyzer and that too with sa account and not windows authentication.
I know things worked but there is a big WHY in my mind and I am more interested in knowing the 'why' of such behaviour or where am I lacking information?
Looking forward to your response.
Regards,
Madiha.

Perhaps this might help you-I checked Event Viewer and it appeared that a scheduled routine failed and after that all messages that were there were like 'Scheduler1 hung up', 'Scheduler2 hung up'.
