I am planning to upgrade one of my servers from SQL 2000 Standard Edition to SQL 2000 Enterprise Edition.
Is it necessary to re-apply service packs and any hot fixes after the upgrade?

Rich,
no, you don't need to reapply the service packs. Actually hardly any files will be changed and the databases aren't touched at all.

Hmm .. I'd probably re-apply the last service pack to be sure especially on a production system.

Hi Colin,
It is a production server with SP3a plus a hot fix currently installed.
So to be on the safe side, I should rather re-apply the above after the upgrade?

Well, I've only done this upgrade once on production - incorrect build and no-one noticed !!! - I didn't feel safe not re-applying the service packs ( 4 + 2187 ) , and the change control board didn't either < grin > as I couldn't categorically guarantee the sp was still there ..

I have not had to upgrade an edition on SQL2000, but I have in SQL2005 and you have to reapply sp1 after the edition upgrade for 2005.
After your upgrade, check @@version - if it has the correct build, you are probably ok. If not, re-apply.
