Upgrading from SQL 2012 Standard to 2012 Enterprise

  • Good Day SQL gurus

What would be the best way to upgrade from SQL 2012 Standard to SQL 2012 Enterprise edition.

I currently have replication running on the sever.

  • launch the installation media and in the installation centre there is an option to upgrade the SQL Server edition. Should be fairly painless to complete

  • Will any settings of mine be lost, Like replication during the version upgrade

  • I wouldn't have thought so if you're smart you'll take backups before you begin.

  • Thanks for the reminder, but will definitely start with backups first...

one more thing do you think the window for downtime will be large or the version upgrade will be quick as I assume just additional updates will be installed to upgrade it to Enterprise

  • Sorry I'm not sure I understand you. It will be just a version upgrade of SQL 2012 Standard to SQL 2012 Enterprise I don't think any migration is required. It's going to be on the exact same instance.

(SQL Analysis Service) BI Semantic Model (Tabular), Data Compression, DB Sync

  • I believe it is a fairly quick operation based on another users experience of this
