Upgrading 2008STD to 2008R2STD

  • Windows 2003 with 2005DEV and 2008STD.

Reporting Services can apparently be started in the 2005DEV instance (but I stopped that) but cannot be started in 2008STD.

Apparently, the Upgrade Process requires that Reporting Services 2008 be started in order to upgrade it. Several different approaches to start the service always result in Access Denied, and one approach, sa/passAdmin/adminpass I think, starts the Reporting Services 2008 but then the service immediately shutsdown and an alert says "This can happen if there is no work to do."

    Any clue? Please?

(There was an occasion during the upgrade process where an alert was displayed that implied I needed to reboot the server. I clicked OK but the upgrade wizard continued to upgrade.)

  • Tried uninstalling Reporting Services from the 2008STD instance. Got half-way through and at:

    SqlRSConfigAction_remove_UnConfigRC_Cpu32

    errored with:

Input string was not in a correct format.

So, tried uninstalling all of 2008STD. Same error, only now I have no 2008STD.

So, tried uninstalling Reporting Services from 2005DEV. Success.

Tried again uninstalling RS from 2008STD. Same error.

  • Please post the complete error.

  • While preparing my response, I fine-tuned my search on Google and came across references that suggested I run: lodctr /R

It worked. 2008 Reporting Services have been deleted.

    On to installing 2008R2!

Thank you for your willingness to assist!

  • I had same problem. Reconfigured the reporting service and it started.
