Hi all,
I have a 2005 Standard RTM build on a 2003 sp2 server
I am trying to upgrade to SP2 but keep getting failure
database services instance MSSQLSERVER
Status failure
integration services
Status failure
Client Components
Status failure
At each stage the message Hotfix.exe has encounted a problem and needs to close.
No error message or anything.
i am logged in as Administrator and also have sys admin rights for SQL
I have stopped all services and even rebooted server but still get the same message.
any ideas what could be wrong?

Can you post the installation summary log? It should be a file named "Summary.txt" in a location similar to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\

You could try this link. It did work for at least one similar problem (although it mentions SP1, it's worth a shot).
