I installed SQL Server 2012 & 08 on Windows 8 & everything worked fine. Then I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and the image displays the error that occurs now. How can I fix this? Do I need to uninstall and do a fresh install?

Check that the SQL service is running, if not, check the SQL error log in Logs folder.

Check that the upgrade hasn't enabled Windows Firewall - it is enabled by default.
See this page for details on how to disable it or open specific ports.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I opened the SQL Server Configuration Manager & it only had Integation Services for both nonexisting instances. I tried a repair unsuccessfully with an error 26 . So I'm attempting to uninstall & try a fresh installation on Windows 8.1.
