I noticed that SQL Server 2005 SP3 is not in the in the supported version to be upgraded to SQL Server 2008 R2 as shown in the link below. Please let me know if there any issues with in place upgrade.

I guess the information on the URL is created before SP3 for SQL2005 was released.
Allthough I don't have much experience with an in-place upgrade from SQL2005 to SQL2008, I can't believe there would be issues with SQL2005 SP3 if SQL2005 SP2 is supported.

If at all possible it is best to install SQL2008 on a new server and restore you dbs, jobs and users to it. In place upgrades are possible, however, if something goes wrong you have no back out. Not to mention if the upgrade blows up what do you do?

In back 2011, in my last company when we upgraded the sql 2005 sp3 (cu4) to sql 2008 r2 , we found one issue like pivoting of query was not working well syntactically. so we had contacted Microsoft for that.

Allow me to ask: what is this doing in SQL Server 2014 Administration?
