Upgrade to CU

  • I have a load of servers that will need to be upgraded to the latest CU (2008,2012,2014,2016,2017).

Is there an easy, safe way to automate this upgrade, instead of having to do every single Server one-by-one ?

I've heard of SCCM and we use it for a lot of things, but I'm not sure if it is applicable for this .

  • Hi ,

its not an good idea performing the automate installation for service packs - because without knowing the impact ..which is not advisable.

And whether all servers are standalone servers? i.e, there is no logsipping/mirroring/cluster/alwayson configured on this servers?-

Above require patching according to best practices to minimize downtime.

    i hope this helps you!!

  • Hi,

we've got a lot of sql server. Every server has a downtime, in this downtime windows updates, sql cu are installed. First in the test / eval enviromnment, and the in the integration, and last but noch least, in the production.

We use a software for the update, but you had to decide, if there is a single node, a cluster or aoag. It depends, but be sure, you have current backups. And test the installation in your test enviromnment first.

    Good luck,

    Kind regards,

    Andreas
