Upgrade locked due to DTS

  • I tried to upgrade SQL 2k to SQL 2005, it was blocked due to the following error message:

SQL server 2000 Meta Data Services packages are not supported.

SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edits DTS packages.

    What to do with it?

  • Move packages stored in Meta Data Services to SQL Server storage or to structured storage files.

Download SQL 2000 DTS Designer components from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=df0ba5aa-b4bd-4705-aa0a-b477ba72a9cb&DisplayLang=en

It's widely recommended to run SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor before attempting an upgrade.  It will point out and offer solutions for upgrade issues.  Get it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1470E86B-7E05-4322-A677-95AB44F12D75&displaylang=en

  • The existing SQL 2000 with SP4.

    1. I deleted all the DTS packages under Local packages,

    2. There is nothing under Meta Data Services Packages.

    3. When I click Meta Data, it show the messages below

An error occurred while trying to access the database information. The msdb database could not be opened.

I have searched for an answer on google, could not find one.

  • I have installed Sql Server 2000 and sp4. When I open EM and select Meta Data I get the msg: An error occurred while trying to access the database information. The msdb database could not be opened.

There are no DTS packages on this new system.

The database does not show as Suspect status.

The SS2K log shows an error: Failed to obtain TransactionDispenserInterface: XACT_E_UNABLE_TO_READ_DTC_CONFIG.

The event log shows this msg: Failed to initialize the needed name objects. Error Specifics: d:t\com\complus\dtc\dtc\msdtcprx\src\dtcinit.cpp:457, Pid: 1908

    No Callstack,

    CmdLine: C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\MSSQL\binn\sqlservr.exe

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.
