Hi ,
We are planning for a Upgrade from SQL2000 Enterprise edition to SQL2008 Standard Edition. Is that possible to do. Could any one help me gathering some valid points on how to upgrade the database.

I dont believe you can upgrade from SQL 2000 enterprise to SQL 2008 standard. Here is more details from the MS site on what is possible and supported.
But you might be able to install a separate instance of SQL 2008 and migrate the databases.

Could u plz guide me in collecting the information on Migrating the existing database.
I'll guide u on the situation we r in.
We are right now working on SQl2000 enterprise edition installed on windows2003 server.
Now we want to migrate to SQl2008 Standard edition on windows2008 server.

High level. there are lots of things to consider when upgrading to SQL 2008. There is a lot of documentation available on the install media and on microsoft site.
At a high level.
Best thing to do would be to install a separate SQL Server 2008 instance on a separate machine.
Here is a detailed step-by-step.
Once, SQL 2008 is up and running, back up the SQL 2000 databases ans restore them here.
