Can anyone tell me if I need to purchase any additional licensing if I simply upgrade servers from SQL2000 to SQL2005?
Does the SQL2000 license carry over to the new server as long as we unplug the old server after the upgrade.
We have select -'A' pricing.

Microsoft has the whole story on their page, regarding which versions of SQL 2000 can be upgraded to which versions of 2005.
As far as moving a license from one server to another, I assume you mean a new computer in this context. If so, yes, you can move a license from one machine to another, even if you leave the old server software on the old server. It's just a matter of what's actively in use.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, move the application to a different physical new server.
We usualy keep the old server around for a week in case of any major issues.
thanks again.

You're allowed to keep a copy of the software installed on a separate server if it's being used as a "cold standby", so that should be fine.
