Hi,
Iam upgrading enterprise evaluation x-64 to enterprise edition-x64.
The upgrade works fine with RTM version of enterprise evaluation edition to enterprise edition, But when the evaluation edition has SP2 installed on it and then upgrading to enterprise edition it shows upgrade is blocked there are no features to upgrade.
Like exactly as below:
Name: SQLDBA\INS1
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.
Name: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Tools (64-bit)
Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online.
Build version check:
Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.
Here is message at the end of the setup wizard...
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Setup
------------------------------
None of the selected features can be installed or upgraded. Setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine. To continue, click Back and then select features to install. To exit SQL Server Setup, click Cancel.
So we can not upgrade an evaluation edition having SP2 to enterprise edition?
Thanks

Can't say I've had to try this so I don't really know ... tried to search a bit for ya, and I found your same post on four different sites.
Anyways, in the error it states: "Reason: Your upgrade is blocked. For more information about upgrade support, see the "Version and Edition Upgrades" and "Hardware and Software Requirements" topics in SQL Server 2005 Setup Help or SQL Server 2005 Books Online."
This article can be found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143393.aspx
In this article it states:
Upgrade from
SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Evaluation (32-bit, IA64, X64)
Supported Upgrade Paths
No upgrade support.
What's the harm in ripping down the instance and simply starting fresh? Doesn't take all that long.
Good luck.

Thanks Adam,
I went through the link, but it did not mentioned about upgrade from evaluation edition having sp2 installed to enterprise. The RTM has no isssues,it upgraded to enterprise.

Well, be that as it may, the link does state that there is no upgrade support...
If you still can't find resolution, I'd say make a call to Microsoft.
