I need to upgrade our SQL Server 2005 developer ed to standard ed. Can this be done as an upgrade, or will I have to uninstall the developer ed and then install standard?
Thanks very much for any help.

I believe this is an uninstall and reinstall. You should be able to detach databases, and script out user/passwords if you need to.

Uninstall-reinstall. Had one like that last year and that's what I had to do.

Hello,
The BOL Topic “Version and Edition Upgrades” suggests it is a viable upgrade path, but obviously practical experience proves otherwise. (Got to admit, I have never tried it).
May be MS’s documentation is just wishful thinking 😉

May I ask why you need to upgrade from Developer Edition to Standard Edition? If the server is going to become a production server, I can understand the need, I am just curious.

That was my situation. Built with Dev, then changed the server to production once all the code was working.
