Hi
We have 3 node Active/Active/Passive clustered SQL Server 2005 EE x64 with SP3 in Production..We must need to do In-place upgrade only as the servers 1 yr old only
On Node 1( Active)
VS1\Ins1
On Node 2(Passive)
On Node 3(Active)
VS2s2
VS3\Ins3
VS4\Ins4
In my Test environment, I have 2 node Active/Active cluster setup with SQL Server 2005
On Node1:
VS1\Ins1
VS2\ins2
On Node 2:
VS3\Ins3
VS4\ins4
I did the following steps:
1. Installed .NET Frame work 3.5 SP1 on Node1 and Node2 and restarted both Nodes. Now all the 4 Instances are moved to Node1.
2. Started the installation on Node1, and the setup prompted me to install Windows Installer 4.5 and I completed the windows installer installation on Node1 and it again asked me to restart the node1 and I have restarted Node1 and Node2
3.From the setup I have selected the option: Click Upgrade from SQL Server 2000 or SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008
4.I have selected the instanceto be upgraded as Ins1 from the down in the wizard option 'select Instance' and selected all the features to upgrade to SQL Server 2008
5.I got 1 warning in the wizard option 'Upgrade rules' (please see the attachmnet)
6. Installation is successful
7. Restarted both the nodes.
Issues:
1. The instance Ins1 is always staying on Node2. If I go and move to Node1 from cluster Administrator, its giving me warning 'cannot move the ' (I do not have exact error here)
2. After the Upgrade, still I can see SQL Server 2005 SSMS and all 2005 tools along with SQL Server 2008. In-place upgrade should upgrade the tools to 2008 right?
3. I have connected to the instance VS1\INS1 using SQL Server 2008 SSMS , but still it's showing the version as 9.3.4035. The instance is not Upgraded, even though the setup completed successfully.
Please explain the exact steps to perform In-place upgrade to SQL Server 2008 from 2005 in a 2 node clustered environment having 2 instances on each node. Later I can try for 3 node.
I really appreciate your help
Thanks

could you please advice me..thanks
Suggestion: please state your problem clearly and succinctly. We can't do that with what you wrote. Reading is work. We don't want to have to read through all your detail to have to figure out what you want.
The less work you make for everyone, the more likely your question will be answered. Just asking for people to respond to you will not, I repeat NOT get you any results -- in fact, it'll do more to drive people away than it will to get people to help you.
Sorry if I sound harsh -- I just want to see you get the help you want.

Have you taken a look at the documentation?
This document describes the upgrade process for many scenarios, including clusters.
Thanks, Greg E
