Hello. I'm working with a client who currently has a SQL 2014 Web Instance which I am considering upgrading to SQL 2014 Stanard. Can this be achieved by installing a Standard edition SKU or will a reinstall or full upgrade be needed?
I have no real knowledge of Web edition so am looking for some advice before proposing this to the client.
The main reason for going to Standard edition is to introduce some short term redundancy before looking to move to the cloud.
Many thanks in advance.

You should be able to do this via the SKU upgrade option. It may even be possible to do it by changing the license key for a Standard Edition key.
You definitely should not need to do an uninstall followed by a new install. This process is only needed if you are going down the capability tree (Ent or Dev to Std, etc)
If you can get a small guest server built, you could install Web on it and practise the Std upgrade before touching the live server. This would allow you to reduce the risk of what you want to do.
