Updating SQL 2005 SP2

  • Hi all,

I've been getting mixed thoughts on this and wanted to get a more general consensus.

I have a production server running SQL 2005 SP2 that needs to be updated. Obviously SP3 and SP4 are out now, and I'm wondering what issues/benefits everyone has had on either version. I know when SP4 was released there were various performance issues (locking taking significantly longer, index defrag time increasing exponentially, etc), but I haven't found anything recent about it.

Are there still performance issues in SP4 vs SP3? What version is everyone else running? I am planning on upgrading this server to 2012 within the next few months, but have to get it patched in the mean time for pci compliance.

    Thanks!

  • all mine are at SP4 and I haven't had an issue. Apply MS11-049 security patch as well.

  • Most of my 2005 servers are on 9.0.5057 (SP4 + MS11-049) except for a few that we cannot upgrade because a vendor app won't certify their software for SP4, sigh.
