Updating .NET Core on SQL Server --> Dangerous?

  • UPDATE: Nothing

More details: I promised to let you know what happened.  I brought all the concerns to the Help Desk person who was pushing this change.  To his credit, he listened and got nervous.  I suggested that we get some specific help from Microsoft, and even said that an expert on SQL Server Central suggested this approach.  🙂  (Thanks Jeff!)  The Help Desk person said that MS help costs money.  I said, "Yes."  I then gave my 2 cents that getting direct MS help could end up saving us money over messing up a major database server.  The Help Desk person said that he would ask upper management for the funds, and then he would get back to me.

That was back in December.  The Help Desk had come up with a firm date of completing this project by mid-January.  Now we are in the beginning of March and still no news.  So, I guess it wasn't a big concern after all...

My guess is that this project quietly never happens.  I'll let you know if anything changes.  I just wanted to make good on my promise to let you know what happened and that answer may be: nothing.

  • Thanks for the feedback.  I wish I had the answer for you folks.  I dont.  Hopefully , someone else might see this and be able to rattle one off.

And, isn't it the way things go, sometimes? 😀

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.
