Uninstall SQL Server 2014 SP1 CU6 asking for SSMS CD-ROM

  • During the uninstallation of CU6 in a test environment, I received a prompt to insert the 'SQL Server 2014 Management Studio' disk (see attachment). The original installation was just the base SQL Server 2014 without SP1 then I applied the patch followed by CU6.

In response to the dialog, I set the source to the base SQL Server installation and the uninstallation proceeded from there without any issues.

What I was wondering was, if I now have an installation of SQL Server 2014 SP1 with possible files from the base version of SQL Server 2014? Would I now need to reapply the SP1 patch?

  • You should not have to as long as the 2014 installation was successful. I would check the numerical part of the version installed (Select @@version) and cross check that with the versions from this website [http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.com/]. If it only is showing the base install, the you would need to apply the SP afterwards. You will, of course, need to ensure that the SP is installed before (re)applying the CU6.
