We have a server that has mulitple named instances of SQL 2000 enterprise edition. Currently there is 7 named instances on the server. Three of those are no longer being used or have been moved to other servers. When I attempted to uninstall the instances using setup I receive error "uninstall failed general error parsing validation for sql.mif". I searched for this error on the internet, but only found one thing that recommended trying to remove the instance using the control panel add/remove programs. The advice was given about a MSDE installation not enterprise edition. Is it safe to remove a named instance using add/remove programs? Could it have any impact on the other instances on the server which are being used in a production environment? Please help, this is making me nervous.
