I am getting this message every time I connect to a DB using the MDX Sample Application:
Unexpected error when populating MDX functions collection
Object or provider is not capable of performing requested operation.
Any ideas?

sp3/3a on both client and server? Sounds a little like a MDAC problem.

This works a charm!! But I am unable to view my cubes still ...
If i select the FoodMart 2000 database, all it's cubes appear. But my own custom cubes (in my custom database) just don't appear. they used to, but suddenly they don't.
Also, when i open up Crystal Reports and try to look at these custom cubes, same problem! the error i get there is: "Failed to open OLAP database"

Definitely sounds like MDAC.
Use component checker (see link) to see what version of MDAC you have and, if necassary, reinstall.
You may find that you have disparate parts of MDAC versions in which case the best course of action is to reinstall. All the executables for reinstalling are downloadable from Microsoft.
I think the minimum version you need is 2.5

Thanks so much for your reply!! I followed your advice and ran the component checker on my PC. It came back with MDAC 2.7 SP1 and MDAC 2.7 SP1 REFRESH. ((sob)).
still getting the same problem unfortunately. i can't get my head around why it used to work, and then why it suddenly stopped. I reinstalled both Analysis Services AND Crystal Reports.... any ideas what else it could possibly be?
Thanks in anticipation
