unable to view properties when the databse is in use

  We are running SQL2005 (9.00.3068.00) and I noticed that when a person performs a SELECT into query on a particular database, that I am unable to few properties on that database (even as SA). It feels as if all the resources are used for the Select into statement and all other successive requests have to wait.

  Is this normal? I would think not.

  "SELECT INTO" locks metadata tables for the duration of the operation.
