When attempting to start SQLserveragent service, then servie starts and then stops issuing an informaitonal message "SQLServeragent servie on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do..."
The service starts under a local system account and is set how it was previously without issue when running under Win XP - SP2 - SQL 2005 , standard edition.
Could anyone any light on why the service will not start?

SQL Agent normally logs its activities. In Enterprise Manager, right click on SQL Server Agent and select Logs.
There may some some information in the SQL Server Log or possibly the Windows Event Log (most likely the application log) as well.
