If you also had the error while doing a straight copy you may have something in your event logs.

Roy: Nice that you use Litespeed, i have do this sql native backups my manager wants to save money in this recession period, I think you wont be needing any 3rd party tools if you upgrade to 2008, as 2008 is having compression and fast speed to do a backup.
jammie: I think the link you sent http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;304101 is the real answer for this kind of issue i am facing, i have been through this article and seems like it says to change few settings in the windows, might be this is why the copying and restoring backups for large files is failing in my side.

You are welcome. About SQL 2008 Compressed back up, it wont work for me since the Business wants to use TDE. With TDE, compression for compressed back is is next to nothing...:crying:
