I had Sql Server 2008 Evaluation version installed on my system.
After the expiration of the evaluation period, I unistalled the Evaluation version.
Now I am trying to install the SQL Server 2008 Express edition which is free to use.
But I am getting the message "Evaluation period has expired" and the install fails.
Please help.

Are you sure that you removed all of the SQL Server Components for the Evaluation Edition and then rebooted before installing the Express Edition?
Make sure that you have completely removed both thru add/remove programs.
If that does not work then you will need to manually remove the registry entries to get it to install properly.
Let me know the outcome, thanks.

You may want to try to follow a manual uninstall procedure described in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955404
this procedure is for the cases when the previous installation fails, but it probably may help you. You will need the original edition CD.
Also try to install Express Edition as a named instance if this works for you.
Also read this article

I think option 2 actions in the article may help you.
Let us know if it helped.

Hi,
At times you will find that all of the SQl components do not appear under Add/Remove programs. In that case you need to download Windows Clean up Utility, install it & then try to find if it has detected any other SQl components. If you find any, delete it from there. Delete the registry entries, existing SQl server folders and then try reinstalling.
Thanks
