Hi,
I installed Service Pack 3 : SQLServer2005SP3-KB955706-x64-ENU.exe on my SQL Server 2005 x64 Standard Edition, MS Clustering environment successfully.
But when I tried to install the Cumulative Package 4 :
SQLServer2005-KB972687-x86-ENU.exe
I couldn't click the SQL Instance for it to proceeed, the "Next" button was always disabled.
I doubted maybe there were some wrong in the Service Pack 3 installation :
(1)It required me to reboot the system after installation, ok, I rebooted it. But do I need to install Service Pack 3 one more time. Or just having a system reboot is OK ?
(2)The last step was failed : The provisional tool for Windows Vista client. Because the machine name is not equal to the SQL Instance name.
Will these 2 points casue the Cumulative Package 4 couldn't see my SQL instance ?

1) In a cluster some the files for SQL Server are locked on passive node; so therefore after installing SP3 I usually reboot both nodes before attempting anything else.
2) I am not sure what you mean by this error? if you are running named instance it should not be an issue.
As for your issue best thing to do is look through install logs located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log\.
Review each log to see where the break down occurred. If you need help with logs attach them to this post, summary to start with; if summary doesn't explain enough then detailed.

kk I should have caught this sooner heh, sorry. two issues one you are installing x86 update on x64. Not possible. To you are installing wrong update, SQL 2005 SP3 CU4 is at (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970279) not (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972687). The latter is hotfix for one error only. So that is why the update wizard will not let you select any of the components.

(2)The last step was failed : The provisional tool for Windows Vista client.
This should not be necessary unless the SQL Server instance is installed on a Vista machine!

Dear Mohit K. Gupta,
I am using SQL 2005 64 bit, Standard Edition, MS Clustering.
I want to enable the Lock Page feature.
As I am not using an Enterprise Edtion, Microsoft said I have to install the Cumulative Package 4, however, before that, I have to install SP3.
I installed SP3 successfully but couldn't install CP4.
I went to here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/970279 as I wanted to download the CP4.
But I don't know why the program didn't allow me to click anything.

Could you please try redownloading?
The log you posted .. has this..
08/17/2010 07:04:42.833 kbarticle = KB955706
08/17/2010 07:04:42.848 kbarticlehyperlink = http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=955706
So either you posted the wrong log, or accidentally downloaded the wrong patch.

I down load the CU4 again.
Please see my attached file for details.
But the error was the same : it didn't allow me to click anything.
Have you had such a problem before ?
Are there anything wrong on my existing SQL 2005 that made the CU4 couldn't recognize my SQL instance ?

You are dowoading the wrong CU. You have selected x86 and not x64. Revisit the download page and select the correct CU. To see other downloads available click

Yes, you are right.
I clicked a button then the web page collapsed and I could see the x64 version of CP4.
Thanks.

Heh, I find how Microsoft does downloads for these "special" requests abit annoying. I have made the same mistake before, but after downloading these "special" patches again and again, I am use it now :).
Good to hear yaa got it going, for future if the patch doesn't let you select functions usually one of two things are it. 1) you already got the patch on it 2) you got the wrong patch.
Luckily SQL Server patches will not muck around with version, good thing. Or us DBA will have way more work hehe.
