If you receive an answer from the server, I do not think that you have a network problem.
Follow the advice of SQLBill. It seems to be a permission problem. If you cannot login through SQL Authentication your Login has been deleted.

Okay... That makes sense... The following question is inevitable, how do I get the login back?
Or do I have no choice but to reinstall the server?

Ask your admin or somebody who has sysadmin rights on this server. If you are the admin, then you have an other problem. In this case ask the OS Admin to add for a while your NT Account to the local administrator. Then try to connect through Windows Authentication (this should definitly work) and troubleshoot the problem.
