Unable to access report manager

  • I've just completed a new installation of MSRS to a WIN 2003 server.  I can connect into http://reportserver/reports without any issues.  However, anyone not part of the Admin group on the box gets an NT authentication box and even after entering a valid user name/password, gets a access denied error.  This is also happening on a additional website I have on the server.I've done installations onm three other servers and have not run into this before. I'm guessing this is not specific to MSRS but I'm at a loss as to what to change in order to grant users access to the site.Any help is appreciated!Dave
  • MSRS installs to the default website on your Win 2003 Server box so you should be using http://localhost/reports  unless you have changed the host header name on your default website.

  • Yes, it did install to the default and that is the URL I'm using.  The issue is you must be part of the Local Admin group on the box in order to see the Report Manager.  If not, you are prompted with an NT Challenge and then denied access with the following error message.  This happens even when anonymous access to the default website is granted.

You are not authorized to view this page

You do not have permission to view this directory or page due to the access control list (ACL) that is configured for this resource on the Web server.

    Please try the following:

    • Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.
    • Click the Refresh button to try again with different credentials.

HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource.

    Internet Information Services (IIS)

  • I was able to correct the issue by adding the domain users to the Users group on the local machine.  I've never had this not set up correctly so not sure what happened with this installation.
