Currently running SQL 7.0 on NT 4.0 with current service packs and patches.
Error reads, "The device,\Device\ScsiPort0\did not respond within the timeout period.
I've had this before and once the administrator determined it was not a hardware problem, I began searching and came up with manually shrinking the tempdb and log. Things were fine for about a year and now the issue is back. Any ideas?

I would ask hardware people to check the I/O subsystem again.

I do not know how your system is configured, but I have seen this same message on NT 4 with a defective CD-ROM. As the previous post suggested, I would definitely have the I/O system checked.

Thank you. Here is the end result.
Unfortunately the I/O system is based on an older Pentium 133 mainboard and has never been upgraded (since upgrading means to reinstall the OS). However, the Promise I/O card and its drivers have been replaced along with the cable.
What we know needs to be done nobody wants to do - RELOAD from scratch.
