UDP 1434

  • I'm just curious as to why a default instance is not showing up on available server list.

I've checked the cluster with nmap and port 1434 is open and associated with ms-sql-m service on the active node. what am i missing?

    thanks,

  • You can using server network utility to hide a sql server on the network. click on tcp/ip then properties. I believe this could be why you are not seeing the server as this should stop it from revealing itself to clients.

Oh bliss to be able to hide them all

  • Hide server moves the default instance from tcp/1433 to tcp/2433, a different port. It does also prevent it from being seen whenever someone tries to look at what servers are up.

When you did a port scan with NMAP did you see the default instance listening on tcp/1433?

  • Thanks for the replies..

i've double..triple checked the server net util and made sure that it's not hidden.

i've scaned ports and found that 1434 is open, but not 1433 or 2433.

This isn't a big problem, just trying to figure stuff out.

    thanks,

    Warren
