Hi,
This is true that we are still far behind in terms of proper or best usage of technology withing our database services. There are good number of people who looks for quick fix rather than understanding the issue and resolving it properly with internal resources. May be the turn around time is shrinked for business demand and cost of hardwares has gone down like anything, this has shifted the focus from knowing the root cause of problem to quick fix. Many times these quick fixes don't work either as expected.
We DBA need to spend time to know the root cause of problem, analyse it and seek alternatives and then look for proper/best resolutions. Then pass the knowledge to your peers and junior as learning and motivate them for R&D. This is the future of IT.
Thanks

"Tuning" people and organizations is easy. You just have to know what you're doing. Most don't. A few are the equivalent of "he's good with computers, let's make him the DBA", and more are, "We need a DBA, whatever that is, and decided it was you". Just metaphore out "DBA" and plug in "expert on human dynamics and operations". Such are rare people.
But if you study the subject, it's really easy. People like to be part of effective groups. People like to like each other. (I should say "most people" in both of those cases. The biggest contributor to the failure of human endeavors is the 2.5% of the population that actively works towards making others fail.) It's easy to get most people to get along, communicate well, and accomplish things. You just have to know what you're doing.
Like anything else we humans do, it takes study and learning and practice, to be good at.
