Trying to kill a process

  • Hi everyone - Im a newbie at the forum and sql. I am having a problem - i know what the cause is but I cannot solve it. My backup program Back Exec is locking up a database. Here's the error I am getting:

[Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 3023: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Backup, CHECKALLOC, bulk copy, SELECT INTO, and file manipulation (such as CREATE FILE) operations on a database must be serialized. Reissue the statement after the current backup, CHECKALLOC, or file manipulation operation is completed.

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally.

People can us the Db but i cannot run any backups, DB or Trans, against it.

I have tried to kill the process but to no avail. It keeps running and running. Even though if I look at the backup program, the back up is NOT running

Just before this happened on 11/1/ @ 7:32.41 the ext sp xp_msver ran. I checked out the info re: the sp and I dont think this would have anything to do with my problem but some of the explanations in BOL are a but fuzzy, to me anyway!!

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    karen

  • Karen, basically there are only a few things you CAN'T be doing during a backup, like the ones in this list! I would suggest just trying again - if you get the same error, take a look at what processes are running.
