Trying to go remote through a Cox Technicolor Modem/Router

  • I'm really not sure how to ask or what to ask for.  This is NOT an Openvpn question. This is about accessing my SQL Database remotely. So does anyone access their home computer from a laptop in another location not using Openvpn? Below is my setup and situation.

    My setup:

    Windows 10 Pro

    Sql Server 2019

    Cox Technicolor 4331 modem/router/phone

I had a Linksys router for home use and by using the router and Openvpn, I was able to login to my home computer where my SQLServer database resides and do SQL things.  Then problems. First, the Linksys router certification expired on October 9th of this year and I was not able to go remote.  I was sure that Linksys would eventually straighten the problem out and I would access the database again so I just didn't work remotely.

Then my mailbox on Cox filled up and I really didn't want to delete emails since I need to save all of the emails for business.  I called Cox and signed up for Gigablast.  They came and installed the new modem/router/phone and the speed is much faster and I have 15gb for mailboxes compared to 2gb that I had previously.  I also thought that the new router would be able to pass information back and forth. I guess the first problem I have is shown below.

From the Cox Internet Ports Blocked or Restricted:

    1433 / TCP, 1434 / UDP –

    MS-SQL

Microsoft SQL Server is a database application with a long history of security exploits, and is noted for the propagation of the SQLslammer worm. These ports are filtered to prevent exploitation and propagation of such MS-SQL exploits.

    Thanks
